Lewin claim that small group operated more successfully when they in a democratic laissez-faire method of leadership. the model of change Lewin developed is to look at all the option for moving form the present decision before looking at the future state, and evaluate the possibilities for each one and decide on the best one rather than taking the easiest route.
Model of Change Theory of Nursing: Unfreezing. Change, Refreezing
Change theory have three major concept which is driving force, restraining forces, and equilibrium. The driving force are those that are push in a certain direction that cause change to occur. Restraining force are hinder change because they push the patient n the opposite direction. Equilibrium is the state of no change occur because it can be raised of lowered by the changes that occur between the driving and restraining forces.
The stages in Nursing Theory:
Unfreezing stage is the process which making it possible for the people to let go of an old pattern that was somehow counterproductive. this help them to overcome the strain of individual resistance. There are different approach of helping them to let go of old pattern, one is to increase the driving force that direct the behavior away from current situation or another one is to decrease the restrain that negatively affect the movement.
The unfreezing stage help realized through dialogue and re educational activity to help the progress to become more transitional.
Change stage is also known as the moving to a new level or moment. this includes the process of change in thoughts, feelings, behavior. the change stage is more productive. This stage help the person that involved are convinced that the new way is better.
Refreezing stage is the change as the new habit so it now become the standard operation procedure, without this stage it can be easy for the patient to go back to old behavior/ habits. Rewards, support, and champion leadership continue to be important in this stage.
Nursing theory can be applied to the job of nursing assistant to provide care to assist the resident/ patient meet their Maslow Hierarchy of Need when recognizing and prompt information sharing to increase the patient comfort. For the staff it can help guide them to provide care for patient to help the patient experience the positive benefits of change and refreezing the new positive behavior. Refreezing help the patient with new behavior and new solution for effective pain management.
