Biography
Betty Neuman was born on 1924 in Lowel, Ohio. In 1947, Neuman got her RN diploma form the People Hospital School of Nursing in Arkron, Ohio. After receiving becoming a RN she moved to California where she gain experience as a hospital staff, head nurse, school nurse, industrial nurse, and as a clinical instructor in different medical departments. In 1966, Betty Neuman completed her Master of Science in Mental Health from UCLA. Betty Neuman started to develop The System Model as a way to teach an introductory nursing course to nursing students in 1970. After two years, Neuman's Model was finally published in Nursing Research. Betty Neuman completed her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from PWU in 1985. Neuman was given the Honorary Doctorate of Letters because of her significant impact to the field of Nursing.

Neuman System Model
Nueman System Model focuses on the different stressors patients might have and ways to relieve the stress from the different stressors. The model also focus on how the patient may react to the stress. According to Neuman's model, the role of the nurse is the to keep the system stable through out the three level of prevention; primary, secondary, and tertiary. Primary prevention is to strengthen and protect the line of defense. Secondary prevention is to strengthen the internal lines of resistance by reducing the reaction. To readapt or return to wellness following treatment is the third level of prevention called tertiary prevention.

The Neuman system model helps a nursing assistant help patient that are having a hard time with stress to overcome stress in a positive. The system also helps the nursing assistants ways to readapt to wellness by strengthening their weakness.
